Tendencies of the Scientific production in Librarianship
and Information Science in Brazil

Resumo: No Brasil, pode-se constatar o ainda
reduzido número de trabalhos que têm como objeto de análise
o conhecimento produzido na área. Apesar de pouco numerosos, os
resultados desses estudos constituem indicadores das tendências da
pesquisa em Biblioteconomia e Ciência da Informação,
além de apontarem fragilidades teóricas e metodológicas
dessa produção, contribuindo, dessa maneira, para ultrapassá-las.
O objetivo deste trabalho é, dentro de uma perspectiva comparada,
apresentar uma síntese dos principais resultados e conclusões
desses estudos e delinear algumas tendências temáticas e metodológicas
dessas áreas.

Abstract: In Brazil, there is still a small number
of researches whose main object of study is the analysis of the knowledge
gained in the area. Although there are only few works in this field, the
results of such studies are indicative of the tendencies of research in
the Librarianship and Information Science in Brazil, besides pointing out
some theoretical and methodological fragilities in this production, thus
contributing to their solutions. The objective of this work is to present
a synthesis of the principal results and conclusions of these studies and
to show some thematic and methodological tendencies in this area.

Digital inclusion and economic development in the
construction of information society in Brazil

Resumo: O objetivo deste artigo é investigar
o modo como as tecnologias da informação e das comunicações
têm sido absorvidas nas sociedades capitalistas, em especial no caso
brasileiro. A partir da análise de uma literatura crítica
a respeito do processo de globalização econômica e
levando em conta as estatísticas disponíveis sobre exclusão
digital, pretendemos mostrar que, ao contrário do que apregoa a
literatura mais tradicional e laudatória a respeito dessas novas
tecnologias, a maneira como tem ocorrido a introdução das
chamadas TIC's nas sociedades contemporâneas tende a acentuar o caráter
assimétrico e socialmente excludente demonstrado pelo atual processo
de globalização econômica. No caso do Brasil, em especial,
essas assimetrias se expressam de forma ainda mais acentuada.

Abstract: The aim of this paper is to analyse the
conditions under which the information and communication technologies (ICT's)
have been absorbed in contemporaneous capitalist societies, especially
in the case of Brazil. Deriving from a critical literature of the economic
globalization and also taking into consideration some of the available
statistics about digital divide, the article intends to highlight that,
on the contrary of what is proclaimed by the traditional and laudatory
literature dedicated to the interpretation of the role played by these
new technologies, the circumstances of the introduction of the so-called
ICT's in the contemporaneous societies tends to reinforce the assymetries
and the social exclusion that characterize the recent economic globalization.
In the case of Brazil, in particular, these asymmetries are still more
accentuated.
